Studio etiquette, Terms & Conditions
Welcome to the Ceramysterium. By booking a class, workshop, or term curriculum with us, you agree to the following terms and conditions. These policies are in place to ensure a safe, respectful, and creatively thriving sanctuary for all our makers.
Bookings, Cancellations & Refunds
1
Securing your place at the table reserves our time, materials, and guest facilitators. Because our class sizes are intentionally kept intimate, our cancellation policies are strictly and respectfully enforced to support our studio, staff, and community.
Term Classes (The Academy): Due to the intimate size of our semesters, the preparation required, and the upfront cost of materials, our term policies are as follows:
14+ Days Notice: A full refund or term transfer (minus a $30 administration fee) is available if you cancel at least 14 days before the term start date.
Within 14 Days: Cancellations made within 14 days of the start date are strictly non-refundable unless we can fill your spot from the waitlist. However, your place at the table is fully transferable. If your circumstances change, you are welcome to gift or sell your enrollment to another maker (feel free to ask us if we have a waitlist in place!). Please email us their name and contact details prior to the term's start date so we can welcome them properly.
Missed Term Classes: If you miss an individual class during your term due to illness or personal reasons, we cannot offer partial refunds. However, to ensure you don't miss out on your making time, we offer two designated 'catch-up' sessions at the mid-term break. Alternatively, you may use an open studio slot to make up for lost time, subject to availability.
One-Off Classes & Social Rituals: Tickets to our curated one-off events (e.g., Paint & Play) are strictly non-refundable. We offer two options if your circumstances change:
Rescheduling your date: If you wish to transfer your booking to a future date, we require a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to your scheduled class.
Transferring to a friend: We understand that life (and sudden illness) happens! If you are within the 48-hour window, date transfers are no longer available as our tutors are booked and materials are already prepared for your seat. However, your ticket is fully transferable to another person right up until the event begins. You are warmly welcome to send a friend or loved one in your place - simply send us a quick email with their name so we can welcome them to the studio.
Special Guest Workshops (e.g., Matariki Wānanga): Due to the bespoke nature and preparation requirements of our guest artists, all guest workshop tickets are strictly non-refundable.
Give the gift of creative escape. Purchasing a Ceramysterium gift voucher invites someone special into our sanctuary.
Validity: Gift vouchers are valid for 3 years from the date of issue. We encourage recipients to book their sanctuary time early, as our classes fill up quickly.Validity: Gift vouchers are valid for 3 years from the date of issue. Redemption: Vouchers can be redeemed online via our scheduling platform for classes, workshops, or studio events (subject to availability).

If the cost of the chosen class exceeds the voucher value, the remaining balance can be paid at checkout. If the class costs less, the remaining balance will stay on the voucher code for future use until the expiration date.
Extensions: Expired vouchers cannot be extended, and lost digital codes cannot be replaced, so please keep your confirmation emails safe.
The Alchemy of the Kiln: (processing and Firing Disclaimer)
2
Ceramics is a beautiful but volatile art form. Working with clay, glazes and kilns involves inherent risks.
Breakages & Glaze Flaws: While our technicians treat every single piece with the utmost care, we cannot be held not liable for pieces that crack, break, warp, or experience glaze misfires during the drying or firing process. This is the unpredictable alchemy of clay. We will always do our best to repair damaged pieces, and in the unlikely even a piece is beyond repair, we will offer a similar piece from our studio collection as a replacement.
Outside Materials: To protect our kilns and the work of other students, no outside clay or glazes may be brought into the studio or fired in our kilns without the explicit prior approval of the Studio Manager. If your unapproved materials damage our kiln shelves, you may be held liable for the replacement cost (up to [e.g., $150+P&P per shelf]).
Collection of works
3
Our studio space is a working sanctuary, and our shelving is limited.
Once your pieces have been fired, you will receive an email notification.
You have 30 days from the date of that email to collect your work, unless prior arrangements have been made. We can offer postage and packaging at a cost of $25 + Postage price..
After 30 days, due to space constraints, uncollected items will be donated, repurposed, or respectfully disposed of. We cannot store work indefinitely.
Studio Health, Safety & etiquette
4
To maintain a safe and inspiring environment, all makers must adhere to our studio guidelines.
Silica Dust: Clay and glaze dust contain silica, which is hazardous to breathe over time. All makers must clean their wheels, tables, tools, and floor areas with a wet sponge and wet mop only at the end of their session. Dry sweeping or brushing dry clay is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, we ask that you refrain from wiping clay and glazes onto your clothes or aprons to prevent the dust from drying out and becoming airborne.
Attire: Closed-toe shoes must be worn in the studio at all times. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting dirty (or bringing your favorite studio apron).
Respecting the Sanctuary: The Ceramysterium is an inclusive, welcoming space designed for creative exploration, and we welcome all respectful makers with open arms. To protect the peaceful energy of the studio, we ask that all visitors demonstrate respectful, attentive, and safe behavior toward our staff, guest artists, and fellow makers.
Media & Photography
5
We occasionally take photos or videos during classes for our website and social media to share the magic of the Ceramysterium. If you prefer not to be photographed, simply let your instructor know at the beginning of your session, and we will absolutely respect your privacy.
